When the Islamic Museum of Australia collects personal information
The Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) will only collect your personal information when relevant and necessary. Collecting your personal information helps us to effectively deliver our services, and ensures a secure and personalised experience for you.
The IMA generally collects personal information where relevant and necessary for the following reasons:
- Museum admission, including on-site and external public programs and functions
- COVID-19 contact tracing purposes
- Visitor feedback and comments
- Memberships
- Marketing and communications, including electronic direct marketing
- Fundraising and donations
- Competitions
- Accounting, such as invoicing facilitators and paying stipends to grant recipients
- Recruitment and employment for staff, volunteers and contractors
- Commercial purchases through the Museum gift shop and online store
- Via CCTV footage for security purposes
Your privacy is our priority. The IMA will only collect your information in a lawful manner that aligns with the Public Records Act (1973), the Privacy and Data Protection Act (2014) and the Public Health Act (2001). Because of this commitment to privacy, we will never use or share your personal information to any other entity—unless they are one of our trusted third party service providers listed later in this policy—for any other reason other than those listed above, unless required by law.
We never solicit personal information from children under the age of 16. The IMA will always request that children under the age of 16 seek a parent, guardian or carer’s permission before sharing their personal information with us.

How we collect your personal information
There are different ways we collect your personal information depending on whether you experience the IMA in person or online.
Online
Any online purchases made through our website are processed and kept safe by SecurePay. Purchases made through our online shop are processed through Shopify and purchases made through the Muslim Arts Hub are processed through Stripe. Our website uses cookies to make your online experience easier and more secure. Cookies help to record return visits to our website and evaluate the way you use our online services. Cookies cannot be used to identify you.
The IMA’s website uses Google Analytics, a service provided by Google, Inc (Google). Google Analytics also uses cookies. The information in the cookie, including your IP address, are transmitted and stored by Google. Read How we hold your information to learn more about Google’s policies.
Furthermore, the IMA will collect your email address through our website to add to our electronic direct marketing database, only if you elect to opt-in to this subscription. Read How we hold your information to learn more about Campaign Monitor’s policies.
In person
The IMA requires that all patrons provide a body temperature check upon arrival. You may also be requested to sign-in manually for government COVID-19 contact tracing purposes if you cannot do so electronically.
Other than this, the Museum does not require any further personal information when purchasing tickets or merchandise from our reception. You may be asked to provide a postcode or information about how you found out about an exhibition or public program. Providing this information is always optional.
Photographs or videos may be taken of you for promotional purposes when attending the Museum for public programs or events. In this instance, you will be notified in advance and be provided with a talent release form to sign as proof of consent to distribute this material.
How we hold your information
Occasionally, the IMA uses third party service providers to store and process some of your personal information. This is employed to help us better organise your data and to deliver our services effectively. Examples of these third party service providers include:
